OC suspended for arranging marriage of rape victim

The Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station Obaidul Huq has been suspended for arranging marriage between a rape victim and a rapist.

Pabna police super Sheikh Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday afternoon.

He said, a notification signed by Deputy Inspector General (personnel management) Abdullahil Baki, was sent to the concerned offices by fax.

Earlier on August 29, a youth named Rasel Hossain raped a woman in Sahapur Jashodal village of sadar upazila. Later, cohorts of Rasel also raped the victim.

Following the incident, the house wife filed a written complaint on September 5. But, police allegedly arranged a marriage between Rasel and the rape victim to save the people accused in the gang-rape case.
