One killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the district.

The gunfight took place in Khurermukh area under Sabrang union in Teknaf upazila early Wednesday. Two BGB men were also injured in the gunfight.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim who hailed from Jadimura area of Hrila union.

BGB-2 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Foysal Hasan Khan said a BGB team signalled a Cox’s Bazar-bound auto-rickshaw to stop. But criminals ignored the signal and fired on the BGB team forcing them to back fire that triggered a gunfight. After the gunfight, bullet-hit Ibrahim was taken to a hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

BGB also recovered 20,000 yaba pills, a gun, two bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot.
