Pack up 31st night programmes by 6pm: Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has issued an order to pack up all sorts of programmes on 31st night by 6:00pm in order to ward off untoward incidents.

The minister came up with the order at a meeting organised to discuss about security issues for the upcoming Christmas Day and 31st night at the ministry on Monday afternoon.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “People arrange different programmes in open places on 31st night. But all forms of gatherings and outdoor celebrations will be prohibited from dusk on the day. Police will have to inform earlier if someone wants to arrange any indoor celebration. Bar or liquor stores will be closed before 6:00pm on the day.”

He requested all to refrain from opening fireworks, exploding crackers, reckless driving, misbehavior with others and illegal activities on the day.

The minister said, “December 25 is the Christmas Day for the Christian community. Security measures have been beefed up so that they can celebrate Christmas Day peacefully. Close circuit cameras will be set up at different churches in the capital. At the same time, arch tower will also be set up to ensure security.”

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed and chiefs of other services were present at the meeting.
