Public exams in identical question papers suggested

Secretariat Correspondent: Educationists and specialists suggested taking public examinations under all education boards in the country in identical question papers from 2019.

They also suggested the exclusion of four subjects of secondary school certificate (SSC) -- physical science studies, health and sports studies, arts and craft, career studies -- in the public exams.
    
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said this while addressing a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday noon.

The recommendations came from a two day workshop organised by the ministry at Cox’s Bazar last Saturday and Sunday which the minister also attended.

The ministry said they also suggested developing the standards of education through easy-to-read textbooks and standardised scores instead of raw scores for public examination results.

The specialists at the workshop suggested cancelling the exams to reduce the massive workload that the students face during secondary-level public examinations, the minister said.

The specialists also suggested the creation of an ‘item bank’ for multiple choice and creative questions, adoption of a reading day and distribution of ‘teacher’s guides’, Nahid added.

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, former advisor to the caretaker government Rasheda K Chawdhury, Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Prof Akteruzzaman were also present at the press conference.
