Ranitidine production, sale banned

Directorate of drug administration has decided to impose a ban on importing raw materials, production and sale of Ranitidine, a medicine which is used to decrease stomach acid production.
The decision was taken in a meeting with leaders of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries held at the conference room of Directorate of drug administration in the capital’s Mohakhali on Sunday.
A public notice will be issued in this regard on daily newspapers on Monday.
Major General Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of Directorate of drug administration, told this to the reporters after the meeting.
He, however, the ban is temporary. The companies will collect sample from market and test in own laboratories to find out whether any harmful element exists in it. Later, they will inform Directorate of drug administration the findings.
Besides, Directorate of drug administration with self-initiation will also conduct standard testing on the medicine.
