Remittance inflow hits record

Economic Correspondent: Bangladeshi expatriates have sent a record amount of remittance home in 2018-19 fiscal year.

The migrant workers sent 16.4 billion US dollar remittances to Bangladesh in the fiscal year. The amount over the same period in fiscal 2017-18 was 14.98 billion USD.

Bangladesh Bank sources said, although the remittances inflow had reduced in last couple of months due to hundi but, the country have received record amount of remittances through banking channel in recent fiscal year.

Md Serajul Islam, spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank executive director said, basically the remittance inflow has increased due to strict steps against hundi system.

The positive trend of remittance will increase in 2019-20 fiscal year as the government introduced two percent incentive on inward remittances.
