Robber killed in Sylhet ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Biyanibazar upazila of Sylhet early Sunday.
The deceased was known as Misbah Uddin, 27, son of Alim Uddin of Loharsangom village of neighbouring Jakiganja upazila.
He was sued in eight cases including firearms and robbery filed with different police stations of Sylhet.
Md Aminul, additional superintendent of police (ASP) and media official, revealed the news in press release on Sunday afternoon.
The press statement says, “A team of Biyanibazar police station led by its Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abani Shankar was moving to recover firearms with robber Misbah. But his cohorts fired at law enforcers while they were crossing Sheola bridge around 3:15am. Police also retaliated for self-defence. Misbah sustained bullet injury when he tried to flee the scene. He was rushed to Biyanibazar Upazila Health Complex where attending doctor declared him dead.”
“Law enforces recovered a home-made pipe-gun, five rounds of fresh bullets, six rounds of shells, two machetes, a long knife, a curter and a sword,” the statement reads.
