Rohingya killed in 'gunfight' with BGB

A suspected Rohingya drug trader has been killed in a gunfight with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in Ghumdhum union under Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The incident took place in Goda Lake border area of Ghumdhum union in the upazila on Monday morning.
Confirming the matter, BGB Cox’s Bazar 34 Battalion commander Lt. Colonel. Ali Haydar Azad Ahmed said, acting on secret information that Yaba pills will be smuggled through the border, a BGB patrol team, took position in the area. Meanwhile, the BGB team noticed 8 to 10 suspected persons were coming from Myanmar border. At one stage, they opened fire aiming the BGB men.
The BGB officials fired back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight. The Rohingya was caught in the line of fire. Later, the bullet-injured person was sent to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead.
A total of 80,000 pieces of Yaba pills, an one-shooter gun and two rounds of bullets were found in the spot.
