HC issues rule over Rooppur plant graft

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has issued a rule asking way a judiciary committee will not be formed to investigate ‘pillow scam’ in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The court has also asked the enquiry committee formed by the ministry to submit its probe report within two weeks.

The HC bench of Justice Tariq Ul Hakim and Justice Md Suhrawardy on Tuesday issued the order.

Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chief Engineer of Public Works Department, Additional Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer of Rajshahi and Project Director of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant were made respondent to the rule.

Writ petitioner lawyer Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman moved for the plea and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Amatul Karim moved for the state, at the courtroom.

Earlier on May 20, the High Court issued a ‘standover’ on hearing of the writ filed seeking a judicial inquiry into the tender of furniture and related materials purchase for a project building of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP).
