S. Korea becomes champion of Walton Embassy Cup Football

South Korea has won the championship of the Walton Embassy Cup Football for two consecutive years.
The South Korean team sealed the second edition of the tournament as they beat Saudi Arabia 5-4 in the tie-breaker at the Armed Police Battalion field in Uttara’s sector-2 on Saturday.
The final’s stipulated time ended 1-1 before the match went into penalties.
After the match, Archbishop George Kocherry handed over the award to the winners as a chief guest. Armed Police Battalion Headquarters Additional IGP Mosharraf Hossain, Executive Director of Walton SM Zahid Hasan and Executive director of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar joined the programme as special guest.
Earlier on Friday, the two-day long tournament started with the participation of 16 embassy teams. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
South Korea’s goalkeeper received the Golden Gloves while Saudi’s Arabia’s forward player Saad al Bigini grabbed the Golden Boot with half a dozen goals. Besides, only woman player in the tournament, Johanna Johnson from Swedish Embassy clinched the Golden Ball.
Country’s multinational brand Walton was the title sponsor of the tournament.
