SC upholds bail for MP Harun

The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld an order of the High Court (HC) that granted bail to lawmaker and BNP Joint Secretary General Harun Or Rashid for 6 months.

The Appellate Division bench of SC led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain handed down the order on Wednesday morning.

Advocates Zainul Abedin moved for MP Harun in the court while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan argued for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier, the single HC bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain passed the order on Monday.

On the same day, the lawmaker filed an appeal with the HC challenging a lower court verdict that sentenced him five years’ imprisonment for enjoying the privilege of importing a car without tax.
