Parliament Correspondent: Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam has said safe water supply will be ensured to all the slum dwellers in the capital by December 2019.
He said, ““All slums of the capital will be brought under legal and safe water coverage by December 2019 aiming to implement the government’s vision – Safe Water for All.”
The Minister on Thursday said this while responding to a starred question placed by ruling party lawmaker Didarul Alam (Chattogram-4).
The minister said the government, in the last 10 years, has taken various initiatives to ensure safe water for all city dwellers as per its Vision-2021.
He said the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) has taken three water treatment plant projects to increase its capacity of producing water from surface sources, reducing dependence on groundwater sources, by 2021.
Once the projects are implemented, about 70 per cent water of DWASA will be produced from surface sources, while only 30 percent water from the groundwater sources, Tajul said.
He said all the old pipelines of DWASA are being modernised aiming to ensure safe and pressurised water supply system in the capital.
