Senior Awami League leader and former Home Minister Sahara Khatun has died.
The 77-year-old breathed her last at the Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok at 11.30pm (Bangladesh time) on Thursday.
Mojibur Rahman, assistant secretary to Sahara Khatun, confirmed this.
Sahara was flown to Bangkok on July 6 for advanced medical treatment.
Sahara Khatun was admitted to the hospital on June 2 with fever and some old age complications.
Sahara Khatun was born in Kurmitola, Dhaka on March 1 in 1943. His father’s name is Abdul Aziz while mother is Turzan Nesa. Sahara Khatun has been elected as Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-18 constituency for three terms. She served as the home minister and later the post and telecommunication minister in the 2008 Sheikh Hasina-led cabinet.
