Former Home Minister and Awami League presidium member Sahara Khatun, who is currently undergoing treatment in the capital’s United Hospital, is not being taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

On Friday, a decision was taken to shift former home minister to BSMMU.

In a press briefing on Saturday noon, Mujibor Rahman, personal secretary to Sahara Khatun, said “Her physical condition is stable, and she has been still kept on ventilation support. She is not being taken to BSMMU at this moment”.

Sahara Khatun was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from High Dependency Unit (HDU) around 11:00am on Friday as her physical condition deteriorated.

The 77-year-old Awami League stalwart has been suffering from fever, allergy and different old-age complications.

She was admitted to the United Hospital with respiratory problem early June 3. Still, she is undergoing treatment there.

She is currently taking treatment under the supervision of the hospital’s medical consultant Afsana Ara.

Sahara Khatun was born in Kurmitola, Dhaka on March 1 in 1943. She has been elected as Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-18 constituency for three terms. She served as the home minister and later the post and telecommunications minister in the Sheikh Hasina-led cabinet.
