Sajib murder: 2 prime accused killed in `gunfight`

Chuadanga Correspondent: Two prime accused of schoolboy Sajib murder were killed in a gunfight with the member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Shantipara village under Damurhuda upazila in the district early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Shakil, 22, son of Abdul Kader and Sobuj, 21, son of late Hamidul.

Maj Munir Ahmed, deputy director of Rab-6 in Jhenidah, confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

Being tipped off, the elite force conducted a drive in Shantipara area around 3:00am.

Sensing the presence of the RAB, miscreants opened fire at them prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, leaving the accused severely injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared them dead, Munir said.

RAB recovered a pipe gun, a revolver and four rounds of bullets from the scene, he added.

Rakibul Islam alias Rakib Member, another prime accused in the murder, was killed in a `gunfight` with Rapid Action Battalion at Gobindapur village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on September 16.

On July 29, Mahfuz Alam Sajib, son of late Habibur Rahman from Dashami village under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga, was abducted by Rakib and his gang from an agricultural fair in the same upazila.

The abductors demanded Tk 20 lakh in ransom from Sajib`s family for his release the following day.

Although Sajib`s family agreed to pay the ransom, the captors killed the boy two days later and concealed the body inside a septic tank of a house located in C&B area of the upazila. The house was rented by Rakib.

On August 30, RAB recovered the corpse from the tank in that house.
