Staff Correspondent: Gonojagoron Mancha activists have brought out a procession to celebrate the death penalty awarded to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem for wartime offences during the country`s 1971 Liberation War.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld death sentence for Mir Quasem Ali rejecting his petition seeking review of the verdict.
Hearing the news around 9:30am, several hundreds of people regardless of their age and sex brought out the procession from Shahbag. The procession returned to Shahag marching Teachers Students Centre (TSC).
The cheerful processionists were chanting slogans “Joy Bangla”, “Jonotar joy holo” (people have won), and “Shahbagh-er joy holo” (Shahbagh has won).
