Speed boat with 18 passengers sinks in Padma River

Madaripur Correspondent: A speed boat carrying 18 passengers sank in the Padma River due to strong current this morning on its way from Shimulia to Kathalibari, leaving one passenger missing.

The speed boat capsized around 8:30 am.

Akhter Hossain, traffic inspector of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC) Kathalbari Ghat, said a speed boat carrying 18 passengers overturned because of strong wind while going to Kathalbari terminal from Shimulia around 8:30am, leaving one of the passengers on board missing.

Other speed boats later conducted a rescue operation there.

Launch and speed boat services remained suspended due to inclement weather since 8:45 am.
