Steps if pvt schools charge tuition fee during corona shutdown

Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Dhaka has warned private school authorities not to charge tuition fee during the general holidays enforced due to coronavirus.

If any school authority will violate the instruction, legal steps would be taken, the board said.

Guardians Unity Forum President Ziaul Kabir Dulu said, “Tuition must be waived for the shutdown period.”

He said, “The government has announced stimulus for different sectors in the crisis moment. The stimulus should be given to the educational institutions as well. Then, institutions and guardians will be benefited.

However, private educational institution authorities want tuition fee. They claim, students are being taught online. But teachers have not been paid for two months. So, to run the institutions, charging fee is needed.

Bangladesh English Medium School Association general secretary GM Nizamuddin said, “English medium are about to launch new session. So, they need to evaluate examination sheets. And that’s why English Medium Schools are charging fee to pay teachers, officials and employees.

Md Ziaul Halque, Chairman of Secondary and High School Education Board- Dhaka, said, “We have issued instructions not to create any pressure for tuition fee. Legal steps would be taken if we get any complaint in this connection.”
