Subarnachar rape victim returns home

Noakhali Correspondent: A mother of four, who was gang-raped by a group of miscreants in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali, has returned home from hospital after 17 days.

She was released by Noakhali General Hospital on Thursday, 17 days after she had been admitted to the hospital.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the hospital Dr Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim confirmed the news.

He said, “The victim has recovered, so we released her as per the medical board’s decision. She is now physically well.”

“As her broken arm will take time to heal, we asked her to visit the hospital for a routine check-up on February 2. If she faces any health complications, she can ask us for assistance anytime,” he added.

Meanwhile, the victim’s husband, Sirajul Islam, said, “She is doing well and facing no health complications at the moment. A contingent of DB [Detective Branch of] police has escorted us home.”

The woman was forcefully removed from her home at Modhya Bagya village in Subarnachar in the early hours of January 1, and gang-raped; allegedly by 10-12 local members of the Awami League.

The news of the gang rape shocked the country, sparked protests in Dhaka and elsewhere, and drew condemnation on social media.
