Tanners Association to buy rawhide at fixed price

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) has decided to buy rawhide of sacrificial animals at a fixed price following a request made by the Commerce Ministry.

A handout signed by Commerce Ministry senior information officer and public relations officer Md Abdul Latif Baksi said on Wednesday afternoon.

The Commerce Ministry has reviewed the ongoing situation created over the buying of rawhide of sacrificial animals with Bangladesh Tanners Association. During the discussion, the association has been urged to start buying rawhide on immediate basis before August 20, the handout said.

Taking the ongoing situation into an account, Bangladesh Tanners Association has decided to start buying rawhide upon a request of the Commerce Ministry, it added.

The Commerce Ministry earlier sought assistance from traders to ensure buying and selling rawhide at fixed price.

The ministry also requested traders and local administration to preserve rawhide following proper process.

Regarding this, different level businesses concerned have been urged to be responsible.
