Tanvir Shakil would contest Sirajganj-1 by-poll with AL ticket

Awami League is likely to nominate Mohammad Nasim’s son Tanvir Shakil for the Sirajganj-1, said top leaders of the party.

According to the constitution, if any constituency remains vacant, it is mandatory to hold by-polls within 90 days. So, the Election Commission (EC) will have to organize voting in Sirajganj-1 seat within September 10.

Awami League Presidium member, 14-party spokesperson and former health minister Mohammad Nasim’s Sirajganj-1 parliamentary constituency has been declared vacant following his death.

Demise of this senior leader created a vacant in his party. Mohammad Nasim was elected five times from Sirajganj-1.

AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak told risingbd, “We are still shocked following the death. An election will be held in the seat after a certain period of time. We will announce candidate for the constituency. However, there is no discussion over the issue now. His son had become parliamentarian earlier. The party would consider him in that sense for sure. Party leader Sheikh Hasina will take final decision.”
