Two cops suspended

Staff Correspondent: Two policemen have been suspended in connection with the fleeing of Rubel, the prime accused of raping a Garo girl in the city`s Badda, from the chamber of a magistrate.

The suspended policemen are Badda Police Station Sub-inspector Emran-Ul Hasan and Constable Dipak Poddar .

MA Jalil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station, confirmed the matter Sunday evening.

The OC said the two policemen were escorting Rubel to the court this afternoon. But they did not perform their duties properly. For this, Rubel managed to flee the court.

They have been suspended for their negligence in this connection, he added.

The OC said the law enforcers are conducting a special drive to arrest him again.

Earlier, Rubel managed to flee the chamber of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury around 3:30pm on Sunday.

He was taken there to record his confessional statement over the rape incident. Later, Rubel fled the chamber.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested Rubel at the city`s airport railway station area.

Rubel along with his several accomplices picked the indigenous girl up from Uttar Badda while she was returning from her workplace and raped her on the night of October 26. Later on November 4, the girl filed a law suit against Rubel, one of his accomplices Salauddin and two others unknown persons.
