Two ‘drug traders’ killed in ‘gunfight’

Two accused in drug-related cases have been killed in a so-called gunfight with police at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

The gunfight took place early Tuesday in Uttar Shilkhali Sapmara area under Baharchhara union of the upazila, said Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Amin, son of Ula Mia of the locality, and Helal Uddin alias Sumon, son of Nur Mohammad.

On information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left the duo bullet injured. They were immediately taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared them deam, the OC said.

Police men also recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets, two guns and seven bullets from the spot.
