Two held for 'defaming' prophet

Police have arrested two persons from Khulna and Kushtia for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on social networking sites.

The detainees are – Anjan Das, son of Nirapad Das, and Narayan Karmakar, son of Subodhchandra Karmakar.

Khalishpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sabbirul Alam said, Anjon Das made derogatory comments about the prophet on his Facebook page and the comment went viral, creating a tense situation in the area. Later, on information police arrested him from Mongla Port’s residential area on Thursday night.

A case has been filed against him with Khalishpur police station under digital security act.

On the other hand, police arrested Narayan Karmakar from Bheramara of Kushtia for posting derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on Facebook.

Bheramara police station OC Shah Jamal confirmed the matter.
