Two killed as students clash with police in M`singh

Students of Phulbari Degree College in Mymensingh clash with police following a demand for nationalisation of the college.

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: At least two people were killed and 50 others injured when students of Phulbari Degree College in the district locked into a clash with police.

The incident took place on Sunday noon.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Azad and Safar Ali, 70, a passer-by. The names of the injured could not be known immediately.

Sources said teachers, students and others have been demonstrating for nationalisation of Phulbari College.

The clash erupted when police tried to stop them, leaving Azad critically injured. Later, Azad was admitted to Community College Hospital in the area where he succumbed to his injury.

The clash also left 50 others injured.

Rifat Khan Razib, officer in charge (OC) of Phulbari police station, however, claimed that Safar Ali died of different reason.

Safar Ali who was far away from the spot fell sick and police took him to a local health complex where duty doctor declared him dead, the OC added.
