‘Use of dexamethasone without doctor’s advice is risky’

Department of Drug Administration said that use of dexamethasone without consultation or prescription of a registered medical practitioner is extremely risky.
A notification signed by Department of Drug Administration’s Director General (DG) Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter on Thursday (June 18).
The notification said that dexamethasone is being used for the treatment of critical Covid-19 patients under the guidance of specialist doctor in Bangladesh. Dexamethasone is a steroid medicine. It is not the main medicine to treat Coronavirus.
This medicine is used as supportive drug to treat Covid-19 patients. Specialists suggested not to use it at home and on asymptomatic, mild, and moderate symptomatic patients since dexamethasone may increase the infection level.
