Vehicles in slow pace on Dhaka-Tangail highway

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A long tailback has been created on Dhaka-Tangail highway due to additional passengers and vehicles, inflicting sufferings on thousands of homebound Eid holidaymakers.

Since Friday morning, vehicles on the highway are moving slowly and being stuck in a short distance.

Nearly a 60-kilometere tailback has been created from Mirzapur to the eastern part of Bangabandhu Bridge. Pressure of vehicles started to increase as the time advances.

According to police, the huge traffic congestion on the highway has been created due to the pressure of Dhaka-bound cattle-laden trucks and vehicles of Eid holidaymakers.

Law enforcers and volunteers have been working on the highway to ease the gridlock.

Although the Eid vacation begins on Sunday, a large number of people left the capital on Friday taking advantage of the weekend.

The Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on August 12.
