Water transport workers call off strike

Water transport workers called off their strike hours after the enforcement on Wednesday.

The Noujan Sramik Odhikar Sangrakshan Oikya Parishad joint convenor Sheikh Md Omar Farruq confirmed the withdrawal of the strike.

“We withdrew the work abstention because of Charmonai Peer Mahfil. Devotees will suffer if the strike continues. Besides, assurance has also been given by the Labour and Employment Ministry to meet our demands,” he added.

Earlier in the morning, the workers went on work stoppage to press home their 15-point demands.

The Noujan Sramik Odhikar Sangrakshan Oikya Parishad (River Vessel Workers' Rights Protection Unity Concil) called the work abstention from a human chain programme held on November 20.
