Woman gang-raped in front of husband in Tangail

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A woman, 25, was gang-raped in front of her husband at new bus stand area in Tangail town on Friday night.

Police arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The victim woman is from Kalihati upazila of the district while his husband from Shakhipur.

The woman said, “several individuals forcefully took them away to the DC Lake area while she reached new bus stand area on Friday night. There, three of them raped her in front of her husband.”

“Then her husband fled to the nearby sadar police outpost and informed police the incident. Later, police rushed to the spot, rescued her and took her to Tangail General Hosptial,” she added.

Sayedur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tangail Model Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, “Conducting drives, six people have already arrested over the incident. They are known as Yousuf, Robin, Mofiz Mia, Jahidul Islam, Imon and Tasin. Besides, Uzzal Mia and Hassan went hiding.”

A case was filed in this connection, he added.

Narayan Chandra Saha, supervisor of Tangail General Hospital, said the woman was taken here around 5:00am on Saturday. Primary evidences of rape were found. She, however, is currently out of danger.
