Writ filed seeking judicial probe into city hospital fire

A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking its directive upon the authority to form a judicial inquiry commission to probe into the fire incident at United Hospital in Gulshan, Dhaka that left five patients dead.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Redwan Ahmed Ranzib and Barrister Hamidul Misbah filed the writ petition on Monday (June 1).
In the petition, the lawyers prayed to the HC to direct the authorities concerned to cancel the license of the hospital and pay compensation for the family members of the victims.
Health secretary, DG of health directorate, authority of United Hospital have been named as defendant in the writ petition.
Barrister Anik R Haque told risingbd that the hearing would be held at the virtual High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahman.
Earlier on May 27, the fire broke out at the corona isolation unit, leaving five patients dead on the spot. Later, three fire service units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
