Wakil Uddin takes oath as MP

Md Wakil Uddin, a heroic freedom fighter and country’s prominent businessman, has taken oath as the Member of the Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-11 constituency.
Speaker Shirin Charmin Chaudhury administered the oath taking ceremony at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 10:00am on Wednesday.
Md Wakil Uddin got a landslide victory in the January 7 national election. He bagged 83,885 votes while his rival Jatiya Party candidate Shamim Ahmed got 2,747 votes.
After the election result, people from all walks of life of the constituency came to greet him with flowers.
Voting was held in his constituency in a festive atmosphere on Sunday.
Md. Wakil Uddin was born on July 2 in 1954 in a sophisticated Muslim family at Baridhara (formerly known as Kalachandpur) of Dhaka.
He was involved in politics from the student life. He held different positions of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
He directly participated in the 1969 non-cooperation movement and the 1970 national election.
On March 7, 1971, young Wakil Uddin joined the historic public meeting at Race Course Maidan in Dhaka.
Inspired by the speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he participated in the great liberation war in 1971.
Wakil Uddin is the chairman of Baridhara Corporation Ltd and Baridhara Agro & Food Processing Ltd, managing director of Swadesh Properties Ltd and Swadesh Global Media Ltd and director of Hurdco International School.
He is the chairman of the editorial board of the national daily ‘Swadesh Pratidin’.
