Youth take firm pledge to build tobacco-free Bangladesh

Nari Maitree, a renowned voluntary organization dedicated to women's empowerment and social welfare, convened the prestigious Anti-Tobacco Youth Conference-2024 at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on Saturday. 

This landmark event witnessed the participation of over two hundred enthusiastic young individuals who pledged their dedication to building a tobacco-free Bangladesh.        

With the esteemed support of Nari Maitree, the conference sought to mobilize youths to combat the widespread impact of tobacco and smoking on Bangladeshi society. 

Distinguished actor and Member of Parliament from Dhaka-10, Ferdous Ahmed, honored the event with an inspiring speech, encouraging young individuals to spearhead efforts towards a healthier nation.

Shaheen Akter Dolly, the Executive Director of Nari Maitree, emphasized the organization's commitment to empowering young leaders to initiate positive change.

Ferdous Ahmed, addressing the conference as the chief guest, underscored the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation's future. 

He echoed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision for a smarter Bangladesh, emphasizing the imperative for young people to abstain from smoking and tobacco consumption.

During the conference, there was a resounding call to fortify tobacco control laws to pave the path for a tobacco-free future. Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, illuminated the alarming strategies employed by tobacco companies to attract young people and children. 

Esteemed guest from ULAB, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and student representatives from Lalmatia Girls' College, graced the event alongside members of Nari Maitree from various levels, teachers, and media personnel.
