Four ships carrying about 52,000 tonnes of unrefined soybean oil have arrived at Chattogram seaport from Argentina and Brazil.

The edible oil has been imported by the country’s several industrial groups.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Omar Faruk confirmed the matter on Tuesday (December 10).

Sources said CityGroup, Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) and TK Group have imported those.

TK Group has imported 25,000 tonnes, CityGroup 20,000 tonnes and Mehgna Group 7,000 tonnes of unrefined soybean oil.

Oil from two ships-Ardmore Cheyenne and MT Dumbledore- have been unloaded and have already left the port.

Besides, oil from another two tankers - MT Sunny Victory and MT Ginga Thresher- is being unloaded.
Traders said these crude oils will be refined and bottled at factories, and it will take 14-15 days to reach the market.

They said there is currently no shortage of soybean oil in the market. There will be no shortage of oil in the upcoming Ramadan.
