No change in duties until Ramadan ends

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said that the government will not change duty on any product until the Ramadan ends.

The adviser said this while talking to journalists after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase at the Secretariat on Tuesday (January 7).

“Gram, pulses and dates have already been imported. Soybean oil has also become tolerable. If necessary, we will decide on soybean again”, he said.

He stressed the need for market monitoring to keep prices of commodities at tolerable level saying that only the Consumers’ Right Protection Act won’t work.

 “Onion price has come down to Tk 40 from Tk 200. In our country, prices of goods rise and fall again and again. In developed countries, prices remain fairly stable,” he pointed out.
