DU abolishes gonorooms, classes start on Sept 22

All kinds of academic activities are going to start in Dhaka University (DU) on September 22 following three-month closure of classes and exams due to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

At the same time, the university administration decided to scrap the system of gonorooms in residential halls.

The decisions were made during a virtual meeting of the Provost Standing Committee on Monday (September 9) night.

Four key decisions taken in the meeting included: each hall provost will make necessary arrangements to start academic activities from September 22; students from the 2017-18 admission session and earlier sessions who have completed their master’s exams must vacate their halls by September 30, scrapping the system of gonorooms in residential halls and repurposing the hall’s games room for co-curricular activities.
