The students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have blocked all entrances and exits of the university following the death of a student who was hit by a battery-run rickshaw on campus.
Afsana Karim Rachi, a student of the Marketing Department at the university, died last evening (November 19) in a road accident at the campus. Protesting the incident, the students started to observe ‘Jahangirnagar Blockade’ from 7:00am on Wednesday (November 20).
Their demands, outlined in an eight-point charter, include ensuring campus safety.
The eight-point demands include installing CCTV cameras within three working days, cancelling all illegal licenses, taking necessary steps for valid license holders by 26 November, including issuing cards, widening the roads, and forming a high-level committee for overall improvement of the Medical Centre within five working days.
Earlier, Puja Majumder, a student of the 47rd batch from the Journalism Department, was severely injured when an auto-rickshaw hit her in 2022. Following the incident, students demanded closure of auto rickshaw movements in the campus area.
