JU scraps dependents` quota

The Jahangirnagar University administration abolished the dependents' quota system in the varsity admission following the demands of students.

Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University formally made the announcement around 12:15 am on Wednesday (February 5).

He said that for the past week, students have been petitioning and agitating in various ways for the abolition of the dependents' quota. As the issue involves the interests of various stakeholders of the university, we had to discuss it with all of them. Due to this, it took some time to make the final decision.

Earlier the students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) started a mass hunger strike demanding the abolition of the "dependents' quota" admissions policy.
