Magura AL leaders raise questions over Shakib`s nomination

There were rumors that Shakib Al Hasan might enter politics. Recently, he has bought two nomination papers for two seats in his Magura district, Magura-1 and 2, and the other one is from Dhaka-10. The issue generated new discussion among the local Awami League leaders in Magura.
After the collection of nomination papers of Shakib Al Hasan Awami League, a wide discussion has started among the party leaders and general people in Magura. The main question is – Shakib Al Hasan is going to nominated from which seat?
Basically, Shakib’s political journey was discussed in last parliamentary election., he showed interest in buying the nomination form of Awami League from Magura-1 constituency in 2018. However, he decided not to join the polls at the eleventh hour at that time.
On Saturday (November 18), on behalf of Shakib, a representative collected the nomination forms from the party office in Bangabandhu Avenue.
Shakib’s nomination issue now has become the talk of the town in Magura.
In an immediate response, the Awami League leaders of Magura said that they have never seen Shakib involved in local politics or any political activities. However, the party president Sheikh Hasina's decision is the final decision. Although, Shakib's family didn’t make any comment in this regard.
Shalikha Upazila Awami League president Shyamal Kumar Dey said that the matter of nomination is in the hands of the party chief. We have to join the election with that person who is selected by our leader. I can't talk about other places, but I know that people of this area were never close to Shakib Al Hasan. However, we will join the polls with anyone selected by the top management. We don’t have any problem.
On the other, it was known that a part of Awami League, is angry with the current lawmakers in both Magura constituencies. They are expecting a change in the candidates.
Following the nomination collection issue, district Awami League president AFM Abdul Sattah said anyone can buy nomination. But we think the persons who have dedicatedly worked for the party for a long time, who have done politics in Awami League since their student life, who stand in favor of the liberation war, should be nominated.
District Awami League general secretary Pangkaj Kundu said that he has hear the matter. But, without knowing details, he denied to make any comment in this regard.
