Earthquake: 80 injured in Cumilla

An earthquake struck different parts of the country including Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla on Saturday morning.

At that time, a rumor spread that the wall of the factory of Chupua Amir Shirts Ltd had collapsed. Over 80 workers were injured as they were trying to come out of the factory in a panic during the earthquake.

Chauddagram Fire Service Station leader Didarul Alam said we are conducting a rescue operation.

Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex health officer Golam Kibria Tipu said several teams are working to provide treatment to the injured. Number of wounded people may rise.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chauddagram Thana Trinath Saha said he heard about some people getting injured in the panic during the earthquake.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located 8km east-northeast of Lakshmipur’s Ramganj upazila.
