Two killed being crashed by truck in B’baria

Two passengers of a CNG-run autorickshaw were killed after a speeding truck ran over them on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria district on Saturday (December 9) morning.

The accident took place at around 8am in Bertola area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Rahman, 55, son of late Abdul Khalek, a resident of Sonasar village of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, and Iqbal Hossain, 32, son of Ansar Ali, a resident of Subidpur village under Lakhai upazila in Habiganj district.

Khatihati Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akul Chandra Bishwas said a speeding truck ran over a parked CNG-driven autorickshaw when they were sitting inside the autorickshaw in Bertola area, leaving Abdur Rahman dead on the spot and Iqbal critically injured.

The injured was taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where Iqbal succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police seized the truck from the spot although its driver managed to flee the scene. The bodies were kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
