Onion price doubles overnight

The price of onion has been increased rapidly after India has imposed a ban on onion import.

Following India’s restrictions, the price of onion has doubled overnight in Hili of Dinajpur.

On Saturday morning, Indian onion was being sold at Tk 180 in wholesale market in Hili. It was Tk 85-90 yesterday.

According to a notification issued by the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Thursday (7 December), the country announced an extension of onion export restrictions until 31 March next year.

This decision aims to bolster domestic availability and regulate prices, as stated in the notification's rationale.
