Couple gets life term for murder in C’nawabganj

A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced a couple to life term imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of a man in 2014.

The court also acquitted another man as the charges brought against him could not be proven.

The convicts are Khairul Islam, 49, and his wife Lalbanu alias Laili, 39.

Judge Md Rabiul Islam of Chapainawabganj Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court passed the verdict on Thursday (January 11).

The court also fined them Tk10,000 each; in default they will have to serve six more months in jail.

According to the case statement, the convicts beat a man named Jasim Uddin mercilessly to death on March 20 in 2014 following previous enmity. Later, the victim’s father filed a murder case against nine people on the day.

On October 23, 2017, police submitted charge sheet against the couple and a man named Shafikul Islam.
