Ferry loaded with vehicles capsizes in Padma

A ferry – Rajanigandha – capsized in the Padma River after a bulkhead hit it at Paturia-Daulatdia ghat in Manikganj on Wednesday morning (January 17).
No casualties or injuries were reported immediately.
BIWTC Aricha office manager (commerce) Md Salam Hossain said that so far six people were rescued after the incident. There were nine trucks on the ferry.
Earlier, the traffic on the route was suspended from 2am on Wednesday due to poor visibility. Rajnigandha was anchored near terminal 5 when a bulkhead rammed into it, breaching its hull.
Aricha fire service station said that divers from the fire station reached the spot and started the salvage operation.
