Sunken ferry will be recused in next two days

Three salvage vessels failed to recover the ferry Rajanigandha till Friday night. The ferry sank in the Padma River in Paturia of Manikganj on Wednesday.

But on Friday, Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Arif Ahmed Mostafa said we expect that the ferry will be rescued in next two days.

Salvage vessels Hamza and Rustam recovered three trucks till Friday night. Salvage vessel Protai has joined the operation to rescue it.  Besides, a ship named Jhenai will help them, he said.

A total of 10 air lifting bags are being used to float and recover the ferry, and this operation will be carried out on Saturday, he added.

“Every task is difficult and challenging as there are heavy current and sand in the river. We expect we will be able to rescue the ship in next two days”, he said.
