Truck-autorickshaw collision leaves 2 dead in Jhenaidah

Two people were killed and four others injured as a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah district on Tuesday (January 23) morning.

The accident took place on the Maheshpur-Khalishpur road in Bhalaipur area under the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Kashem Mia, a resident of Ghugri village and Alamgir Hossain, of Pantapara area under the upazila.

According to locals, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw with passengers was heading towards Khalishpur from Maheshpur. On the way, when the auto-rickshaw reached in Bhalaipur area, a sand-laden truck rammed the auto-rickshaw from opposite direction, leaving the duo dead on the spot and four other passengers critically injured.

Locals rescued the injured and took to Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor referred them to Jashore General Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Maheshpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mahabbur Rahman confirmed the matter.
