6 burnt as tin-shed house catches fire in N’ganj

Six members of a family sustained burn injuries in a fire caused by gas line leakage at a tin-shed house in Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj on Wednesday (January 24) night.
The injured were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The burn victims are Sukhi Akter, 33; her daughter Sadia Akter, 10; sister Jannati Akter, 18; brother Arif Hawlader, 21; cousin Rahima Akter, 32 and Rahima’s daughter Ritu Akter, 13.
Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, confirmed the incident and said, “Police were sent to the spot and legal action will be taken after an investigation into the fire incident.”
A relative named Rony Hawlader, said some relatives of Sukhi Akter, who gave birth to a child 15 to 20 days ago, came to her house at Baghpara area to see her child. Suddenly, their tin-shed house caught fire around 10pm.
The fire might have caused from gas line or mosquito coil. It is not clear yet, Rony added.
Tariqul Islam, a resident doctor at the burn institute, said, “One burn victim has been kept at the ICU while remaining burn victims are being treated at different wards. One of them is in critical condition.”
