Abdul Hyee at court to get back MP post

A petition has been filed with the Chamber court against the High Court order that suspended a gazette issued by the Election Commission (EC) declaring Abdul Hyee, a lawmaker of Jhenaidah-1 from Awami League, as the winner in the 12th national parliamentary election held on January 7.
Advocate Sayed Ahmed Raza, a lawyer for Abdul Hyee, filed the petition on Sunday (February 4).
Hearing in this regard will be held today (February 5) in the court of Justice M Enayetur Rahim, the chamber court judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Earlier on February 1, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman’s single High Court bench suspended a gazette issued by the Election Commission (EC) declaring Abdul Hyee, a lawmaker of Jhenaidah-1 from Awami League, as the winner in the 12th national parliamentary election held on January 7.
The postponement was made for two months.
Md Abdul Hyee was declared the winner as he bagged 94,379 votes, while his closest rival Nazrul Islam got 80,547 votes in the January 7 election. Nazrul filed the election petition, accusing Hai of violating the election code of conduct.
Earlier on January 2, a case was filed against Abdul Hyee for violating the electoral code of conduct.
