17 get life term in murder case

A Joypurhat court has sentenced 17 people to life term imprisonment for killing a man, Saleh Mohammad, over a land dispute in the district. The court has also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.

Joypurhat Additional Sessions Judge-2 Md Abbas Uddin handed down the judgment on Wednesday.

The lifers are –Ariful, Abu Naser, Dr.  Shajahan Ali, Hadiuzzaman, Ashraf Ali,  Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Ali, Jahir Uddin, Shamsul Alam, Syam Uddin, Obaidil, Saim, Rahim, Abu Sayed, Abu Bakar, Banu Begum, and Sahera Begum.

All the convicts, except two, were present at the court.

The court has also acquitted five suspects-.

According to the prosecution, there had been a long-standing dispute over a piece of land between the victim Saleh Ahmed and the convicts.On May 2, 2009, the convicts attacked Saleh with local weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
