The price of cumin has decreased by Tk 400 per kg to 720 per kg from existing Tk 1,120 at Hili Land Port in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district due to the import from India.
Spice traders said the cumin saw its decreased price due to the import from India. Meanwhile, ordinary buyers are happy with the decreased price of cumin.
After paying a visit to Hili spice market on Monday (February 12), it was found that cumin was sold for Tk 400 to Tk 450 per kg last year. The price of cumin continued to rise due to low production in India and low imports. The cumin was being sold at Tk 1,120 per kg before its price dropped.
Abdul Razzak, who came to buy spices, said: “There was a skyrocketing price of cumin for a year. I bought 100 grams of cumin for Tk 40. After the hike in the price of cumin, I had to buy that amount for Tk 100. Currently, the price has come down a lot. It would have been better if I could have bought it at the previous price.”
