The process of handing over 330 people, who entered Bangladesh from Myanmar in fear of their lives during a fight, is underway.
According to BGB, the Myanmar nationals will be handed over to the authorities in Myanmar through the Navy Jetty Ghat area of the Bay of Bengal’s coast in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya Upazila on Thursday (February 15).
Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and Myanmar ambassador in Dhaka Aung Kyaw Moe and top officials of the two countries will attend the function, said BGB public relations officer Shariful Islam.
Sources said that the decision was taken to send back the 330 people after exchanging letters from the top-level officials of the two countries. They will be taken by the BGB's own transport from Ghumdhum in Naikhongchhari and Hinla High School in Teknaf to Myanmar's ship through Inani Ghat in Cox's Bazar.
Following the issue, BGB-34 commander lieutenant colonel Abdullah Al Masruki told reporters that the 330 people will leave for Myanmar this morning. Currently the Ghumdhum and Tumbru border situation is normal. However, the BGB forces here were kept alert.
